Did you come to the city with children? Then head for City Park. Just a ten-minute walk from the city centre is one of Debrecen’s most popular locations, with numerous activities on offer under the 100-year-old trees for young and old alike.

Take a cool splash in Hajdúszoboszló

Hajdúszoboszló, which has become world famous for its medicinal water containing iodine, bromine and sodium chloride, is only 22 kilometres from Debrecen, and despite being home to Europe’s largest spa complex, it remains an idyllic small-town resort.

Walk around the mythical land of Hortobágy

While you are in the vicinity of Hajdúság, visit Hortobágy, where you can relax on the porch of the 300-year-old Hortobágy Inn and take in the enormous grassy steppe, while sampling the shepherds’ traditional dish of slambuc (a combination of pasta, potatoes and bacon).

Wildwater excursion on Lake Tisza

A stone’s throw away from Hortobágy and Debrecen, Lake Tisza and its surroundings, also called ‘Wildwater Land’, will fascinate you with both exhilarating water tours and unique bird colonies.

We have good news for sports enthusiasts: the area around Lake Tisza offers a plethora of recreation opportunities to choose from. Definitely not to be missed is the 70-kilometre bike path built around Lake Tisza, considered the safest in the country.

The geography of Hungary is extremely varied: from the Great Plain to Hortobágy, the foothills of the Alps, Lake Balaton, Lake Hévíz (the second-largest thermal lake in the world), the Bükk Mountains and caves, Hungary has it all in the Carpathian Basin. Hortobágy National Park is the real and true ‘Hungarian puszta’, the oldest national park in the country. Lillafüred is one of the highest and the most picturesque parts of Miskolc, and the best mountain holiday resort. You will definitely fall in love with the panorama of Badacsony and Lake Balaton when you sit by the grapevines and admire the view: truly an experience you will never forget. Approaching the lavender fields in full bloom on the Tihany peninsula, while you pass by beautiful rows of grapevines with Lake Balaton in the background, is wonderfully romantic. You can discover most of the unique Tapolca Lake Cave from a boat. Let’s face it: being underground is an extraordinary experience.
